Open Question

Are there any charities or financial groups that aid in the training of a psychiatric service dog (PSD?)

I have been legally disabled most of my life, but my psychiatrist and I recently agreed that I could and would benefit from the aid of a psychiatric service dog (PSD) for various issues including severe anxiety (which often prevents me from leaving the house) and OCD. The problem is that I am still in college and am having trouble affording the cost required to train such a dog. There are several groups in existence that aid in the training and/or placement of vision, hearing, seizure, and autism dogs... however, while my dog's training would be very similar to that of an autism dog, I do not have autism. Does anyone know anything about this--is there even help to be had?

I apologise if this is the wrong place to ask this; I am, unfortunately, new.

Sorry the group was not able to help with this one. You might consider using a search engine for this one. Best, Steve

I train dogs to be social angels I too suffer from some anxiety and find that animals help. I could possible help you out... However I do not actually do the PSD training but do know of a lady in my area who does the "Good Citizen" Test which is basically the same thing. I will look into it more for you and in the mean time feel free to check out www.rarrs.org for a little bit of information on myself and what I do!
