Open Question

my dogs take Interceptor for heartworms, any reason I shouldn't switch them to Sentinel?

I'd like to give them one tablet for everything, and they don't like the stuff you squeeze onto their skin.

Answers to this question:

Not sure you can switch mid season, but ask your vet about Revolution. It's a topical once a month and covers fleas, ticks, heart worm, etc. My little Chihuahua has been using it without problems for years. Good luck.

Thanks, but the point was they freak out when I put stuff on their skin (topical). I'm looking for an oral tablet that prevents heartworm, AND fleas, etc.

I've never heard of an oral tablet that prevents Both fleas and heartworms. I've always heard that they have to be prevented separately. We always give our dog the Heartgard Plus chewables and Frontline Plus flea prevention. My dog LOVES the flea prevention stuff. He sits down and lets me massage it into his skin. He thinks it's massage oils....lol!!! Whatever works!!!

Interceptor does heartworm prevention and has some deworming properties. If you are looking for flea prevention and want an oral pill still, Sentinel does heartworm as well as flea prevention.
The difference though between Senttinel and Revolution is the type of flea prevention. Sentinel acts as birth control and prevents them from laying eggs and multiplying, whereas Revolution kills the flea when they come in contact with the pet. So, with Sentinel you may still see live fleas, but as long as it isn't a heavy burden there is usually not a concern.
If you want to continue using Interceptor, you can add in Comfortis, a new oral flea prevention that will kill the flea as well. Just means you have to give 2 different pills once monthly.
As for switching products mid season...you can switch anytime, if they are due for their next dose anyway.
