Open Question

My Isabella Fawn Min Pin has developed a strange condition on his ears..They are peeling and are red and irritated.

I noticed him shaking his head more...then noticed the peeling of dry skin. Then It looked at if they were missing hair at the tips to about half way to his head. The inside ear looks clean and fine, it is just the tips of both ears that look inflamed, red, and dry. I have been putting a anti microbial/anti fungal...with mild steroid. They have been looking better. Any one know what this could be?

Answers to this question:

Sounds like it could be ear mites. Medication for ear mites is available in pet section of markets. If this doesn't clear it up, I would take him to a vet.

actually doesnt sound like mites at all the ears would smell hella funky and would be darkish brown waxy stuff in the ear, Psoriasis or dry just really dry ears. if it happens again clean her ear out really well rinse it off extremely well then let the water soak in after the water drys rub some vasoline on it. the vasoline will keep any contaminates away from the skin. try nustock

You may be right about Psoriasis or maybe dry skin. But the ear mite symptoms you mention may appear in later stages. In any case, it should be treated before it reaches the inner ear, causing even more discomfort.
Does the anti-fungal treatment continue to show improvement? If that, and other home remedies don't work, I'd get him to a vet.

Sounds like your dog needs a trip to the vet...they can examine them better and do a skin scraping if necessary to check for skin mites. A lot of dogs can also get allergies and their skin is most affected by allergies.
If dogs have ear mites, they don't tend to smell unless there is an ear infection along with the ear mites.
